Short answer
A good YouTube ad does five things quickly: it says who it is for, shows the problem or offer, proves you can help, asks for one action, and works with the sound off. The seven steps below get you there without a big budget.
Step 1: Choose one goal
Decide whether the ad should bring views, website visits, calls or form fills. One ad, one goal. An ad that tries to do everything usually does nothing well.
Step 2: Know who is watching
Write one sentence about the viewer, for example "a parent in Kukatpally looking for a coaching institute for class 10". Everything in the ad should speak to that person, including the language you use.
Step 3: Win the first 5 seconds
Viewers can skip skippable ads after five seconds, so the opening carries the ad. In the first five seconds:
- Name the viewer or the problem, such as "Planning a home in Gachibowli?"
- Show a face, a place or the product, not a logo animation.
- Put your most interesting line before your brand name.
Step 4: Keep one message and a short script
Use a simple structure: problem, solution, proof, action. Proof can be a real result, a short customer line you have permission to use, or a clear look at the work. Cut every line that does not support the message.
Step 5: Make it work without sound
Many people watch with the sound off. Add captions, keep important words on screen, and make sure the story is clear from the pictures alone. Film in good light and hold the phone steady.
Step 6: Ask for one action
Tell people what to do next, once and clearly: call, send a WhatsApp message, or visit the page. Say it in the video and show it on screen, then make sure the link goes to a page that repeats the same promise.
Step 7: Match the landing page
An ad that promises a free site visit must land on a page about the free site visit. If the page feels like a different business, people leave. Check the page on a phone before you spend anything.
A short script you can adapt
Here is a plain structure for a 30 second ad for a local business:
- 0 to 5 seconds, the hook: "Looking for a good gym in Madhapur? Watch this before you pay for a year."
- 5 to 15 seconds, the proof: show the floor, the trainers and one real customer line you have permission to use.
- 15 to 25 seconds, the offer: "Book a free trial class this week."
- 25 to 30 seconds, the action: show the number or the WhatsApp button and say it once.
Change the words for your own business, but keep the order.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Starting with a long logo animation. People skip it.
- Talking about yourself before the viewer's problem.
- Fast cuts with tiny text that cannot be read on a phone.
- Sending traffic to the home page instead of a page built for the offer.
- Stopping the campaign after three days because results look small.
Test before you scale
Run two openings with the same offer for a few weeks and keep the one that brings more enquiries. Small changes in the first seconds often make the biggest difference.
